Jeppe Ullmann

Jeppe Ullmann is from Denmark and was a student at European Film College from 2023-24. Here he talks about what his stay at EFC has meant to him and his future endeavors.

How did your time at the European Film College shape you in a personal way?

EFC really taught me to trust myself, my decisions, my ideas, all of it. I felt like I had the space to explore and figure out who I am. But I also learned that everyone else needs that same space too. Working together on film projects wasn’t just about learning the technical side of filmmaking. It was an amazing way to discover more about yourself.

What skills or insights gained at EFC have proven the most valuable in your work or further studies?

The most valuable insight I have gained at EFC, is that I now feel comfortable in my decision to pursue sound. Before my year at EFC, I was not sure what field I wanted to go into. I liked all parts of filmmaking, but I did not feel comfortable “settling” for one subject. At EFC I got to try lighting, sound design and producing, and I now know for certain that I want to do sound.

Can you share a specific project or film experience at EFC that had a lasting impact on you?

It’s tough to pick just one experience at EFC that really made an impact because honestly, the whole experience has changed the way I think. I’d say the biggest thing I took away was learning how to work together with others. Every project required us to figure out how to communicate and collaborate effectively, and I got so much out of both the easy-going projects and the more challenging ones.

Can you tell us about a memorable moment or friendship you made at EFC that stayed with you?

At EFC, I found a really close group of friends. Even now, almost a year later, we still meet up every week to go to the cinema, and we’ve got a few projects we’re working on together, too. It feels amazing that the EFC spirit keeps going, even outside of school.

What would you say to someone considering attending EFC but unsure if it's the right fit for them?

I was really nervous about coming to EFC. Moving to a new city and meeting so many new people felt like a huge step. But right from the first day, everything just clicked. Everyone has an open mindset and genuinely wants to connect with new people. The intro weeks were so fun, and I had the chance to talk to almost everyone. The teachers and staff are incredibly supportive, and the classes are diverse, offering something valuable regardless of your skill level. If you’re unsure whether EFC is the right place for you, I’d still encourage you to give it a try! You’ll learn new things and almost certainly walk away with valuable experiences, both professionally and personally.
