What is EFC?

At European Film College, filmmaking is more than just a craft – it’s a way of life. Nestled in the serene landscapes of rural Ebeltoft, Denmark, our school combines the rich traditions of Danish folk high schools with the hands-on art of film production.
Here, students from over 20 countries gather to immerse themselves in the world of cinema, creating a vibrant and global community united by a shared passion for storytelling.
What makes EFC unique is not just our commitment to teaching the foundations of filmmaking, but our approach to learning itself.
We welcome anyone with a desire to create and explore films, regardless of background. Our school is self-governing, non-profit, and proudly supported by the Danish government, embodying the values of life education, personal enlightenment, and the spirit of community.
As a Danish folk high school, we believe in learning through living. Our students don’t just attend classes – they live together, creating and breathing film around the clock. From watching and analyzing films late into the night to collaborating on productions, the experience here is immersive and all-encompassing. There are no exams, no grades – just the freedom to learn, grow, and evolve as both filmmakers and individuals.
We offer two types of programs: the 1-year film foundation programme, taught in English and running from mid-August to mid-May, and a selection of 1-week summer courses, conducted in Danish, for those who want to explore specific areas of film.
Feel free to explore our website for more information, and if you have any questions, we’re always here to help.
