BECOME A STUDENT
EFC is open for everyone over 17,5 years who loves film and is able to manage in English. We accept students from all over the world, up to 20 different nationalities in one year.
We are, however, bound by Danish law to always have more than 50% Danish students at all times, which means that we accept about 55% Danish students and 45% international students.
We also aim for an even distribution of gender as we want to support gender diversity and gender equality on campus as well as in the Danish and international film business. In reality, this means that a person of a certain gender may be moved ahead on the waiting list if we asses that this will maintain an equal distribution of gender. We also encourage all young people no matter sexuality and gender identity to register for EFC.
The registration form for a given 1-year film programme opens at the beginning of October the year before, and the sooner you register, the better the chances.
You can read more about how the registration process works under "How to register".
European Film College is very popular for young Danes living abroad. Maybe you would like to get in touch with your Danish roots and learn or refresh the Danish language?
Or maybe you've lived in Denmark for so long that you were able to obtain a permanent Danish residence permit.
Anyone with a Danish citizenship or a permanent recidency will be accepted as a Danish student at EFC, even if you do not live in Denmark. And as we are a bound to accept more than 50% Danish students and do get more international registrations than Danish, applying as a Danish students will improve your chance to get a spot.
If you do not have a Danish CPR-number, you will need to be able to present another type of proof of your Danish citizenship (Danish passport or proof of naturalisation). If you are not a Danish citizen, but have a permanent residence permit, you will need to be able to present your residence permit. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
As a rule, Danish citizens living abroad pay in 2 installments. But contact us if you have questions or concerns.
From Greenland or Slesvig?
Please note that if you come from Greenland, the Faroe Islands, or the Danish minority in Slesvig, you can also be accepted as a Danish student.
If you come from a Nordic country (Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Faroe Islands), you will not need to apply for a visa before coming to EFC.
You will just need to registered at the local municipality after your arrival, and we will help you with this.
Nordic students must pay their tuition in two installments, one in June (before your stay) and one in October.
At EFC, we have students from all over the world - sometimes up to 20 different nationalities in one programme, creating a very diverse community.
If you are not from a Nordic country, but come from a country within the European Union, you will have to get a residence permit in order to study at EFC. However, you don't have to apply for this before your stay.
We will let you know in advance what documentation to bring with you to EFC, and shortly after your arrival here at the school, we will get in touch with you about what to do and how.
Students from Nordic countries must pay their tuition in two installments, one in June (before your stay) and one in October.
As a rule, you will need a full visa before entering Denmark, if you come from a country outside the European Union.
However, there are quite a few exceptions to this rule - some citizens (US, Canada, Japan etc.) will be able to travel to Denmark and start their residence permit processing from Denmark. Read the full list of countries with a visa requirement and visa-free countries here. We do, however, recommend that you start the process before you enter Denmark just in case, as the processing times can be long.
If you come from a country where a full visa is needed before arriving at EFC, we recommend that you register as soon as possible after we open the form, so we have time to process your visa in case you get a spot. We will guide you through the process.
Please note that if you are a citizen from outside EU, there is an additional cost for the Danish Immigration Service (app. DKK2500).
If you are in doubt, you can also contact our Student Administrator, Dina Bøttcher.
All students from outside the EU must pay their full tuition in advance, before we can start processing their visa. We will get in touch with you about a deadline for payment.
Please note that we will guide you through all the processes of applying for visa / residence permit. But it is solely your responsibility to keep the deadlines and fill out the forms correctly.
