Events and social activities

The European Film College is more than a film school. We are a folk high school, which means that we encourage our students to nurse and share other interests besides filmmaking. We also encourage you to help arrange social events and theme nights.

Below you can read examples of the many creative and social activities that are possible for you to attend and arrange during your stay at the European Film College.

Clubs and societies
We encourage our students to nurse all of their skills and interests, and therefore you will get the chance to dig into specific fields with fellow students and teachers who share your interest or passion. Examples of fields where clubs and societies have been formed are yoga, photography, creative writing, music, dancing, art, film analysis, choir singing and much more… Teachers will form different societies throughout the year, but students are also encouraged to form societies, if they have skills or interests that they wish to share with their fellow students.

Weekend events
During weekends there are a number of different social and educational events. These may be presentations, screenings, workshops in special subjects or other interesting things.

Social events and The Event Gang
At the beginning of the year, students who are interested in event and party planning are encouraged to join the Event Gang. Together with one of the teachers they are responsible for arranging anything from school parties and live music to bowling, poetry readings and culture nights. We count on your imagination and commitment!

The school will host five major parties in Dining Hall during your stay: Intro Party, Halloween Party, Christmas Party, Spring Party and Final Party. The Event Gang is responsible together with their assigned teacher to arrange and coordinate these parties as well.

Sports
There is a local fitness centre and public indoor swimming pool within 2 minutes walk from the college. The surroundings of the college are also ideal for running, hiking, cycling and perhaps even winter bathing! On campus we have outdoor basketball and volleyball courts, and in the studio we have a sand bag (and some boxing gloves). You are also welcome to bring your bike, although we cannot offer a roof for it.

Public cinema
The main cinema, Store Bjørn (Big Bear), is open to the public four days a week (Thursday to Sunday) and offers a mix of quality films (many of them of course Danish and non-English with Danish subtitles, but some also from the UK and US). Students can buy tickets at a reduced price.

On Tuesday nights the public cinema is home to the Ebeltoft Film Club, which screens more than 20 contemporary and classic art films and independent films from around the world. Students are able to get seats at these screenings (for free), if any available. They are also welcome to be full members at a reasonable price, if they feel they can commit to that many evenings.

Other activities
Students are invited to help providing things for the school's website, such as Behind the Scenes, video diaries, articles and photos. They're also encouraged to write articles for the school's yearbook, Final Cut.
