How to sign up

How to register for our 1-year film programme

Below is all the information you need in order to sign up. But please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. EFC has one annual 1-year programme, starting end August and running until early May. The registration for the 2024-25 programme will open on October 3rd at 10am.

REGISTRATION CRITERIA

There are only one formal criteria for acceptance at European Film College: you must be at least 17,5 years when the programme starts.

We are, however, also bound by the Danish folk high school law to always have at least 50% Danish students at all times. We also aim to have an even distribution of gender in order to support gender diversity at EFC as well as in the film business, and we encourage everyone over 17,5 years to register, regardless of gender identity and sexual orientation.

Other than that, it is first in, first served.

Immediately after your registration, you will get a confirmation that we received your registration. But due to our legal requirement to have at least 50% Danish students, and due to our gender policy, you will have to wait until spring 2024 to know for certain whether there was a spot for you.

IMPORTANT: we receive between 170 and 200 registrations each year and only have 120 spots - so, the sooner you register after we open the form (early October), the better your chances are.

You sign up here.

Dates

European Film College has one annual film foundation programme, running from mid August to mid May.

The next 1-year film foundation programme will be:

August 12, 2024 - May 10, 2025

There is a Christmas holiday from December 15th 2024 to January 6th 2025 where the school is closed. There is also no mandatory teaching during the Easter Holiday (the school is open, though).

Course fee deadlines

Danish students: Monthly payments.

Students from countries with no Visa requirements: 50% of the fee to be paid before 31 July 2024 - remainder to be paid before 31 October 2024.

Students who are citizens in countries where Visa is required in order to enter Denmark: The total fee has to be paid before 31 March 2024 (se below whether you might need a visa to enter Denmark).

Permit and Visa

European Film College accepts film students from all over the world. There are, however, different requirements, depending on your citizenship. Please note that we will guide you, but YOU are the one responsible for applying correctly for a visa.

Scandinavian citizenship

You do not need a visa to study at European Film College. You just need to be registered at the municipality, which we will help you to do after you arrive at European Film College.

Citizens within the European Union

You will need a residence permit to study at European Film College, but not until 3 months after your entry into Denmark.

If you are accepted at European Film College, the office will get in contact with you after your arrival and guide you through the procedures.

Citizens from outside the EU

As a rule, most citizens outside the European Union will need a full visa before they enter Denmark. If that is the case, you need to apply for our film foundation programme as soon as possible and no later than February 1st 2024, so you have time to process your visa and residence permit. We will guide you through the procedures.

HOWEVER, there are quite a few exceptions to this rule, so If you are in any doubt as to whether you need a visa, don't hesitate to contact our Admissions Manager, Susanne Brandt by e-mail.

Please note that if you do need a residence permit before entering Denmark, there is an additional cost for the Danish Immgration Service (app. DKK2000).

National Danish Health Insurance

When your residence permit/registration is final (this can take up to a few months after your arrival at the college), you will receive a Danish health insurance card and are hereafter covered by the Danish National Health Insurance up until your departure.

However, you are not covered until your residence permit is confirmed. If you are a EU citizen, you will therefore need to bring your blue EU health insurance card, and if you are not a EU citizen, you will need to make sure to take out a private health insurance to make sure that you are covered in case of illness until your residence permit is final. If you do not do this, you will have to pay for any contact you may have with the Danish health care system.
