We miss you, Malthe

Commemorative words for student Malthe Thomsen, who passed away at the weekend.

A young cinematic talent died at the weekend. Malthe Thomsen, our friend, team mate and student at the European Film College was – in his own words – experiencing the happiest time of his life.

Malthe wanted to make a difference with his films. He had been in front of the camera himself, and he had felt the great impact of film media; now he wanted an introduction to the profession, and he wanted to continue to work as a documentary filmmaker.

Malthe was a beautiful and sensitive human being who - with his presence and great sense of humour - made a strong impression on all of us at the European Film College. In the autumn we watched the award-winning film ‘False Confessions’ in which Malthe appeared, and a standing ovation and touching statements from fellow students and teachers created a magic evening which empowered Malthe as well as everybody else at the college.

It is not natural to die at the age of 27. Malthe was on his way and his zest for a new chapter in his life serves as a great inspiration to all of us who had the privilege to know him.
