No doubt one of the most ground-breaking and beautiful films within the last couple of years,
Persepolis won the prestigious Cannes Jury Award in 2007 and was Oscar-nominated as best animated feature film in 2008.
Iranian director Marjane Satrapi who is also the author of the comic behind the film surprised the audience by choosing animation technique to tell her partly autobiographical story set in the years of the Iranian revolution.
This is Satrapi's first visit to Denmark, and students at the EFC will have the privilege of attending the exclusive lecture and also talk to her during her stay in Ebeltoft.
Persepolis tells the story of a remarkable young woman, Marji, who's independence and dreams are constantly threatened by the Islamic Fundamentalists governing Iran from the late 70'ies. Through her experiences the conflicts and issues of the Iranian society unfold in a deeply affecting way.
The film was banned in Iran as well as in several other Islamic regimes. It appears on most critic's top 10 over Best Films of 2007, and will surely be pointed out as an oustanding example of how film can combine animation, film aesthetics and political debate.
Satrapi is known as a significant and inspirational person and we are excited to welcome her to our campus.
