Lectures fall 08 - spring 09

Some of the lectures for the course of fall 08-spring 09 are already planned. We look forward to welcome acclaimed guests from the film industry, media business and universities.

Please note that the list below will be extended and maybe some of the names changed.

LECTURES IN SEPTEMBER 08:

Henrik Uth Jensen
Film history and film theory.
Henrik teaches on University of Copenhagen and joins EFC for 6 lectures about film.
From silent classics over The New Hollywood to Postmodernism and beyond.

Mads Egmont Christensen
Performing arts and film language.
Mads has produced various Danish films and is one of the true ideologists behind EFC. He will give a number of lectures during the fall and run his famous “The Job of the Producer”-course in spring 2009. Mads will also be one of the readers of the Final Projects in spring 09.

Darin Mercado
Scriptwriting
Darin is working on various feature film projects and will visit us in fall 08 with two lectures about the structures and construction of a movie script.

Edvin Kau
Film history
Edvin teaches at The University of Århus, and is widely known as specialist on the great Danish director Carl Th. Dreyer. Since EFC is situated on Carl Th Dreyers Road and since Dreyer is considered on of the most important film makers Edvin’s lecture is of course a must!

Clement Kjærsgaard
US Election
Clement is one of the best and most controversial characters on Danish TV. For years he has hosted successful talk shows and he also anchors the popular in-debt late-night news-programme Deadline.
Last year Clement travelled the US to look for the stories behind the upcoming American election.

LECTURES IN OCTOBER 08:

Frank Esmann
Hollywood and Washington politics
Frank is an expert in the social and political environment of the USA. He is a former senior correspondent in USA, and the author of various books about America. In his lecture he will connect the modern Hollywood to the politics and people of the White House

Jens Nauntofte
War correspondent
In 2001 Jens was elected as the best news journalist in Denmark – ever! He was the last foreign journalist to leave Saigon in 1975 – he has met Ghadaffi, Arafat and every other dictator and world leader you can think of.

Ralf Christensen
Copyright
Ralf is a DJ, radio host, author, journalist and film maker. In 2006 he made a documentary about the big threat of modern culture: copyright. Ralf will show his film and discuss with you how this issue will keep provoking us in the future.

LECTURES IN DECEMBER 08:

Annette Wernblad
Scorsese and Lynch
Annette is a well-known expert on both Martin Scorsese and David Lynch. She has written an international book about Scorsese, and will entertain with films, stories and theories behind these two masters of film.

Jan Harlan
Music and Kubrick
Jan was the producer of all Stanley Kubrick films from Barry Lyndon in 1975 to Eyes Wide Shut in 1999. He was Kubrick’s closest companion – we will hear about their work and Jan’s big interest in music on film. Jan serves as a member of the board on EFC.

LECTURES IN JANUARY 09:

Rick Senat
The Warner Story
Rick was a highly successful executive producer at Warner Brothers Studios for 25 years. He tells the story behind one of the biggest Hollywood studios. Rick was the guy who negotiated and bought the rights for Harry Potter – he was influential in building franchises like Superman and Batman. Rick will also be helpful in developing student films while he’s here.

Ragnar Bragason
Children and Parents
Ragnar is considered one of the important film making talents in Europe. He has already made several feature films and a very successful tv-series in his native country Iceland. Ragnar will bring his back-to-back features Children and Parents.

LECTURES IN FEBRUARY 09:

Morten Albæk
Corporate Social Responsibility
Morten is a public figure in the Danish debate – and at the same time he is senior leader in one of Denmark’s biggest companies, Danske Bank. In 2008 and 2009 he will launch a very ambitious CSR-project – a phenomenon that is spreading out in the large cooperations and busincesses throughout the world. You’ll learn about the modern world, the new order and how the free market is taking matters into their own hands.

LECTURES IN MARCH 09:

Richard Raskin
Short film
Richard is the grand old man in Danish/American short film. He has seen more than most – he has contacts all over the world in the delicate art of filmmaking.
Richard will bring his manual to a good film.

Jakob Isak Nielsen
Comedy and Camera Movement
Jakob joins us from The University of Århus to tell about the wonderful genre of Comedy. He will also give a lecture about the secret of the camera movement – one of the most important elements in filmmaking.

Jonas Wagner
The Danish Film School
Jonas is head of the directing department at the Danish Film School in Copenhagen. He will visit us to inspire and tell about how the Danish Film School works – how to apply and how to manoeuvre in the complex film system.

Prami Larsen
The Danish Film Workshop
Prami has for years been working with some of the brightest talents in Danish Film. The first place to look for support is the Film Workshop. Prami will also tell about the subsidy system and the Danish Film Model.

LECTURES IN APRIL 09:

Thomas Vinterberg
Development
Thomas ruled the world in 1998 when his Dogma-hit Festen opened in Cannes. Since then he has made three feature films with some of the best actors in the world.
Thomas will help the students develop their Final Projects.
