Lectures

The more you know about the world around you, the more material you can draw on in making your films.

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the course periods the whole school attends lectures on a subject of general interest. The college is lucky in being able to attract knowledgeable speakers from all sorts of fields – historians, politicians, journalists, scientists, composers and artists as well as film-makers. Some lectures will relate to film and TV, others to topics ranging from astronomy to Islam, architecture to emotional intelligence. All are designed to broaden your knowledge and challenge your thinking.

Tuesdays: Faculty Lectures
Every Tuesday morning during course periods, the EFC faculty will share their film knowledge with students. The Faculty Lectures will be an important part of the knowledge sharing between students and teachers. The subjects will vary from the essentials of each course to debate arrangements with current affairs in the movie business.
The Faculty Lectures in Big Bear are mandatory for both students and the faculty.

Wednesdays: Common Lectures
Every Wednesday afternoon during course periods we will invite various guests to talk about film, politics, democracy, and tendencies in the film world – any subject that can inspire the students and broaden their horizons. The fundamental basis of making great films is to know about the world and the people living on it!
Common Lectures on Wednesdays in Big Bear from 14 to 17 are mandatory for students.

Saturdays: Common Lectures
During the first course periods Common Lectures will be offered on Saturdays. Subjects will vary from Copyright through Performing Arts to the US Election.
The Common Lectures on Saturdays in Big Bear from 12 to 15 are mandatory for students.

EFC lectures
In its first year the EFC inaugurated the EFC Lectures, a series of lectures or public interviews with outstanding figures from the international film world. These lectures, presented once or twice during the school year, are major events on the EFC calendar, open to the public and attended by all students. Among the many EFC lecturers since the series began are Bernardo Bertolucci, Volker Schlöndorff, István Szabó, Susanne Bier, Alan Parker, Anthony Minghella, Jan Harlan and Saul Zaentz.
Some of last year's lectures are described in the EFC Yearbook, Final Cut
