About Authority, independence and revolt at the EFC.

Once in a while I hear students say: "We want you to be more of an authority". Other times I hear: "We want more freedom" or even "I donīt want to show you my script because you affect it too much".

Well, you guys are developing rapitly because of your age, the circumstances and the pressure here. I try to help you to become independent, responsible, strong, reflective, confident and mature filmmakers by challenging you. Sometimes you get upset by it because you get hurt. Other times you get upset because I donīt challenge you enough and you get bored. When ever I see something missing - I usually comment on it because the best of you just canīt get enough contructive criticism. Students who know that criticism is really help have a professional mind-set. Those of you who take criticism personal are challenge with much more than the hope of becoming a filmmaker. You are challenge with the fact that you get hurt when others try to help you. Itīs a loose/loose-state of mind and you have to overcome yourself to realize that you are not a victim.
It takes selfconfidence.

About selfconfidence

From the quietly confident authority whose advice we rely on, to the charismatic confidence of an inspiring speaker, self-confident people have qualities that everyone admires.
Self-confidence is extremely important in almost every aspect of our lives, yet so many people struggle to find it. Sadly, this can be a vicious circle: People who lack self-confidence can find it difficult to become successful.

After all, most people are reluctant to back a project that's being pitched by someone who was nervous, fumbling and overly apologetic.
On the other hand, you might be persuaded by someone who speaks clearly, who holds his or her head high, who answers questions assuredly, and who readily admits when s/he does not know something.Self-confident people inspire confidence in others: their audience, their peers, their bosses, their customers, and their friends. And gaining the confidence of others is one of the key ways in which a self-confident person finds success.
The good news is that self-confidence really can be learned and built on. And, whether you’re working on your own self-confidence or building the confidence of people around you, it’s well-worth the effort - and the result is ALWAYS a need for I N D E P E N D E N C E and F R E E D O M.

About Independence

You should never believe a word I say. I might be wrong, you know. If you believe me and I am wrong, then whose fault is it? Yours(!), off cause, because you - and you alone - have the responsibility for your self. That is the price for independence. You canīt have freedom and be depending on others at the same time.
